when it all comes together...

sometimes a colour palette just make me really excited and it is as if i then literally get stuck into it - and i need to keep going until there is nothing left of the paper/flowers/chipboard or i am simply exhausted creatively...

the brand new Penelope Dee Rustique Collection inspired the above in me - i am simply so impressed with the colour palette...

i think the way the colours are combined just makes it the perfect Winter Palette here in South Africa - but it can also be used for many other themes such as sunset, beach (as you will see when you continue reading) and then probably just family or heritage photos.

i bought all my products from Scrapbook Studio Online - here is my shopping list:

i bought all 6 papers from the Rustique Collection - 2 of the Natural Papers and one of each of the other ones, as well as two chipboard elements - the Tree Silhouette and the English Word Set.
to this i added a Kaisercraft paper - from the Memory Lane Collection - the Shutters Paper, i also used a Kaisercraft Stencil - Grunge
i chose a pack of Little Birdie Flowers - Coral,  4 packs of Celebr8 Flowers  (i coloured some of them to make them the perfect colour)  - Pearl Blossom Pink , Wendy Buttermilk
i added a sheet each of cream, coral, dark brown and olive cardstock to my shopping cart, some Finnabair Plaster Paste, Finnabair Rust Paste as well as 3 colours of Finnabair Metallique Paints - Golden Moss, Rust Brown and Gold Rush.  i also added two colours of Finnabair Sparks Paints - Fairy Wings and Dragon's Eyes.
i also selected some Fabscraps Metals and bought a 3m piece of Seam Binding (the real thing) that i coloured using my Distress and All Purpose Inks to get the right colours for my bow on one of the single pages.

i will give you some details of how i created the layouts below.

above is a side view showing my left cluster as well as some detail on the Kaisercraft Shutters Paper.  i simply used a palette knife and randomly added some of the plaster paste to the shutters.  when it was dry, i added some Rust paste - the dark brown to cover the white paste.  i then painted it with the Gold Rush Metallique Paint.  i used a dabbing brush - but you can use any brush that you prefer.

i used the Plaster Paste through my stencil as well - just plain, i did not colour it at all.  i thought it looked really nice on the dark green background and created a nice contrast to the muted colours.

i painted my coral cardstock with a mixture of copper ink/paint, clear drying liquid glue and copper/orange glitter that i brayered onto the cardstock to create the perfect colour.  the "flourish" was then cut using my GoCut and Emboss Machine.

i coloured my flowers using a mist i made from All Purpose Inks - you can use any mist you have.

above is a close up of the coloured flowers, my title and the shutters.  you can see that i cut a slit into the shutters.  this will enable me to add the photos when i have printed them.  i know exactly which photos i want to add to this layout, i just need to find them on my computer, print them and add them to the page.

i LOVE these trees...  when i opened the chipboard pack, i knew that i wanted to dress them up using Finnabair Rust Paste.  honestly, it cannot be easier.

i used a stencil/dabbing brush and applied the dark brown rust to the trunk and stem of the tree.  then i repeated the process with green rust paste from the military set on the leaves.  when it was almost dry, i dabbed on some of the red rust paste and then added some Sparks Paint with a soft brush, but also in a dabbing motion.  i am thrilled with the way they came out.  the BEST advise i can give you when using the Rust Paste Paint is to just (really) do it.  i know this is very hard for some people, they want to be told exactly HOW to do it, but there is honestly no way to describe to someone HOW to do it, except that you just literally do it - you just dab it on until you are happy.  one word of advice - don't overdo it and at some point, you have to stop.

when i was done with the double page, i had SO MUCH stuff left over, that i had to make a single.  i had this great photo of Marius taken on the beach when we had breakfast last week - and i knew the colours would be perfect.

my seambinding did not make it onto the double layout, but i knew it would find a home on this layout.

i used a scallop border punch to bring out the browns in this layout, adding little dots of Golden Rod Stickles here and there.  i die cut some leaves from the leftover piece of custom coloured coral cardstock as well as my dark olive cardstock.  i like my little custom embellishment - the punched circle with the flowers, quote and leaves on top of the tattered banner strip that i die cut.

i painted some of the left over words with the Metallique Paints from Finnabair and one of them i coloured using Alcohol Inks.  oh, by the way, i used the dark brown rust paste paint to "chalk" my edges.

just for fun i heat embossed the edges of my photo mat with copper and dark brown embossing powder...

when i was done with the single layout above, i still had so much product left, that i felt i had to use it all up.  i simply and literally threw the layout above together.

the best way to do this, is to start with your focal point - i had the photo matting left over from the previous page.  it was the perfect size for the focal point.

i then punched some circles from the leftover cardstock and patterned paper.  i arranged them with the flowers and cut outs from the word strip paper in two large clusters bottom left and top right.

i coloured the wording above using alcohol inks - once again, effortless and so effective.

i wanted to use the typewriter stamp - and why not!  it fits perfectly and gives me the idea that i can almost use any photo for this layout.

i finished this layout off by adding cream and walnut stain paint splats.

i hope you will be inspired to keep creating in a colour palette until you tire of it, or until you run out of product.  honestly, i still have LOTS of flowers and pieces of papers left.  i could make cards, a mini album or another single page.  unfortunately i had to clear the desk i was working on as it is time to start making the rest of the Scrapbook Studio August 2018 Kit Club layouts...

have a wonderfully creative week and lots of love
